India has fewer women in parliament as a percentage than our neighbours like Nepal because Indian party leaders believe women can't deliver votes. Do you agree?

The patriarchal political system is stacked against outsiders, particularly women. Women make up just 11% in both houses -half the global average –which is lower than other South Asian countries

Yes ! Count is less but not the power under current government. Nirmala Seetaraman , Sushma Swaraj , Smriti Irani are better ,stronger , brighter compared to other ministers ! It's to do with the leader . If Congress ... I don't know.

Politicians will just prop up their wives, mothers, sisters or daughters or daughters in law in the reserved seats for women. They are already doing that now.

Yes

Unfortunately #Yes. That has become the notion now. It hampers greatly to women wish to enter but shy away because firstly, they know that women in politics before them, who had a voice, have turned around and joined in the herd. And secondly, they know it'd be much better if they did not enter the political scenes, for that would at least keep their voices alive and not be killed or bought by someone political. However, a law for equal representations could be one of the solutions. It will encourage women to enter the scenario, it will safeguard the voices of ones who want to be changemakers and would set a bar for women to aspire to come join them.

They should be treated as equals and be given equal oppurtunity

Power/Authority corrupts across gender. Why male judge it.Straight we can go for 50% accommodation for females from panchayats to assemblies & parliament.Open hearted welcome to women participation of women.

Everybody wants the lion share.Sumitraji,Sushamaji,Smritiji Mamata and many others are certainly far more than placeholders.

#womeninpolitics The voice raised by anyone, be it a man or a woman makes it echo till the last person hears it. Our constitution grants freedom of speech to the Indian citizens, then why we as a society create bifurcations based on gender. The woman should not feel unsafe.

More than that women should not feel that they are weak. We are in fact biologically superior to males

Women's representation in political space - be it at the parliamentary level or at the grassroot (Panchayati Raj) level is improving but there is a pressing need to have an increasing number of women in political space more than ever before. Once women have good majority they will be able to put issues that impact women at large at the forefront. While some people feel, women, once they enter politics, behave no differently than men - becoming placeholders and/or mouthpieces of the higher male authorities in the party; there are others who think, women do raise their voice but have to tread safe to retain whatever position of power they have managed to achieve and not rub the powers-that-be the wrong way. What is your view? Are female politicians mere placeholders in Indian politics? Comment with #WomenInPolitics #ETWomensForum

I don't agree but some people have this type of mentality and they underestimate the power of women. women have the equal capability as men have. But we don't need to argue on that topic because India has a great PM who is doing his best for women. and treating equally both men and women. being women I know the strength of women, if women think they can everything because they have a hidden power or strength given by God, only need is to recognise that power and think broadly.

We are not strong representatives for the simple reason that we are not united women does not support another women, the day we stand united forgiving flaws and supporting each other standing for each other nothing can come our way, whether it be politics or any other forum, we dont need a guardian we just need strong hands and support of each other

I donot agree as just numbers don't justify the act. If we look at the posts women hold in different sectors of government, we will see that some of the country's most important posts like Ministry of Defense and Ministry of External Affairs are being held by women of this country. Apart from that, the trend shows a gradual increase in number of women representatives in Politics. No change is abrupt; and I feel that soon we will be having even more number of women in higher posts. Coming out of patriarchal society's mindset is a slow process. But, it is happening. It is even more seen as BJP is fielding Smriti Irani, a woman against Rahul Gandhi, despite the fact that UP is a major vote bank. I do feel that the country's mindset is changing.

Women participate much less in politics. They are still not completely out of their traditional domains in India. They can deliver votes. But very few come out and partoicipate in the electorate.
